Take on responsibility as a duty.
Be fair and just.
Fulfill your duties to the very best of your abilities.
Be truthful in all things big and small.
Cultivate patience.
Be courageous.
As a Fu Jow Pai martial artist, conduct yourself with justice and righteousness towards all.
Show humility, courtesy, and humanitarian concern for all people.
This is the salutation that is stated by all students before every class.
When going into the philosophy of Fu Jow Pai, there is more to it then
just the art, the style and the technique. There is culture and
history. At Kwan's Kung Fu studio we try to hold true to this
salutaion, as much as we do to keep this system to its true traditional
background.
The basics are efficiency in the movement. We see that in general
the best defence is an even better offence. To build up this
offence, mental and physical conditioning is required. We
practice strikes, breaks and counters.
Philosophy Behind Fu Jow Pai
What it all boils down to is learning how to defend
oneself. However, getting to that state of self awarness is a
long one. We do not believe in instant gratification but we see
tihngs for the long run. One will not become great overnight, and
this frustrates many. Most people may not even correctly go
through a single class, until half a year or for some an entire year
passes by.
Many martial arts have this rudumentary goal of self
defence. What separates all of us is how we get there. To
some its a short path, to others its a long tedious trial of endurance.
Fu Jow Pai again is basically, how to defend yourself but how we get
there is very different than most systems. We stress subtleties
in movements. These sublties make some feel like they are walking
an endless road, which defers many away but draws in the most dedicated
of students.
It is however, impossible to express everything in
words. Most of what we say is in our techniques and form.
